Most voters know the Probate Court has something to do with wills and estates. That is true, but it is only part of the job.
The Probate Court touches families, seniors, children, property, fiduciaries, and community institutions. It handles matters that often arise at important and emotional moments in people's lives.
When someone passes away, the court may oversee the administration of an estate, the appointment of a fiduciary, the transfer of property, the handling of debts, and the protection of the rights of interested persons.
The Probate Court also handles guardianship matters. These cases can affect a person's rights, independence, safety, and dignity. They require careful attention to the facts and the law.
The court also handles adoptions, name changes, marriage licenses, and other matters that connect the court to family life and ordinary civic life.
That is why the office matters. The Probate Judge should be prepared, fair, organized, respectful, and grounded in the law. The people who come before the court deserve to be heard and treated with dignity.
Robert Franco is running for Probate Judge because he understands both the legal details and the human side of this work.
