Probate Court is often associated with difficult family transitions, but the court also handles joyful and meaningful moments. Adoptions, name changes, and marriage licenses remind us that the court is connected to family life, identity, belonging, and new beginnings.
That is why public education about Probate Court does not have to be intimidating. It can be practical, respectful, and family-friendly.
Robert Franco has thought about ways the Probate Court can connect with the community in appropriate and positive ways. One example is an annual pet adoption ceremony or family-friendly adoption awareness event. An event like that could help educate the public about the court while also bringing attention to local shelters and the importance of pet adoption.
The purpose would be public education and community connection. It would not be political, and it would never suggest how any case would be handled. Done appropriately, outreach like this can help people see the court as part of ordinary community life.
The Probate Court should not be a mystery. Helping people understand what the court does can build confidence, encourage civic awareness, and remind voters why the office matters.
